In Photoshop you have a variety of palettes available to use. They do everything from store your sets of colors to keep track of the steps you make.
This is a single palette. You can see by looking at the tab, purple section, this is the Layers palette.
When you first open Photoshop you'll most likely see a number of palettes open. Any palettes you don't see can be found by clicking on Window in the menu bar. Here you can select which palettes are showing and which are not by clicking on their name.
The orange sections show some of the controls for this palette. Because I haven't opened or created a file none of the controls are available yet and have been greyed out. When you look at the different palettes you'll see they all have their own set of controls.
In the top left corner you'll see three tiny buttons. The red button will close the palette. To have the palette show again after it's been closed just go to Window in the menu bar and select it. The green button will reduce the palette.
To extend a palette click on the lower right corner with the diagonal lines and drag it.
You can move a palette anywhere you want. Just click and drag the palette from its title bar, blue section.
If you click and hold on the red button in the top right corner...
...the palette menu will pop up where you'll find options available for this specific palette. The options in this window will differ from palette to palette. Because I haven't opened or created a new file most of the options are not available yet and have been greyed out.
