If you like to work with an enlarged view a good way to find your way around your picture is to use the Navigator Palette.
If you don't see this palette go to Window in the menu bar and choose it.

If you go to your Navigator Palette you'll see the red box in the palette is the area you see in your file.

If you click inside the red box and drag it you'll see it will change what you see in your file.

You can also enlarge or reduce your view from the Navigator Palette by dragging the slider, pink outline. You'll see the red box will increase or decrease in size depending on which way you go. This is only enlarging or reducing your view not what's on a layer.
