When you're done you don't want to see too many dark gaps.

Select the elliptical marquee tool. In the options bar change the Style to Fixed Size and enter 72 in both the Width and Height fields. What this does is now when you click down with this tool it will automatically make a circle selection that's 72 x 72.

Take the move tool and move the ring to where you want a marble to be. Continue making copies of this layer. To quickly make copies of the layers select the move tool and hold the option key for Macs and the alt key for Windows. Your cursor will change to two arrows, a black arrow and a white arrow. Now if you click and drag it will make a copy of the layer you last moved. Release the appropriate key to position the ring then hold the key again to make another copy. You'll see I positioned my rings to where more than one color is inside them. To have solid colored marbles position them where the ring is filled with one color. If any of your marbles are touching another marble, especially on the bottom, they'll have a gap in their Inner Shadow wherever the marble is touching. To avoid this don't have any of your marbles touching. The Inner Shadow will be added further in the tutorial. When you have all your rings in place link and merge the ring layers and name the layer rings.

With the rings layer as the active layer take your magic wand and click inside one of the rings, white arrow. Hold the shift key and click in all the other rings. Choose Select>Modify>Expand>1.

Since we're going to be using this selection again we're going to save it. This way we don't have to click in the rings again. Choose Select>Save Selection... Name it rings selection. Now if you go to your Channels palette you will see the selection saved.

Click on the blobs layer and choose Layer>New>Layer via Copy. Deselect and name this new layer marbles. Move your blobs layer below the black back layer in the layers palette.

Add a new layer and put it at the top in the layers palette. Select the elliptical marquee tool and change the Style to Normal in the options bar. You will see the Width and Height fields are now greyed out. Make a selection that will be your shine. Move the selection if needed. If you look in the file's title, purple outline, you'll see it says @ 200%. That's because I've enlarged my view. To enlarge your view, so just what you're seeing not what's on any of your layers, click in your file with the zoom tool. Each click will enlarge the view. To get back to 100% double click on the zoom tool's button in the toolbox.
