Layer locks can be found in the layers palette. You can lock layers to protect their contents. To apply a lock to a layer first click on the layer. Now click on the lock(s), red outline, you want to use. When a lock is applied to a layer a lock icon appears to the right of the layer's name. To remove a lock from a layer first click on the layer. Now click the lock(s), red outline, that you want to remove.

The first one locks transparent pixels. This simply means you can only edit the opaque portions of a layer.

The second one locks image pixels. This means you can't use any of the painting tools on this layer.

The third one locks the position. This means you can't move this layer.
