Here's the signature we will be making. It's a fairly simple siggy to make but it will require you to create your own butterfly brushes. Here's the site where I got the butterflies I used to make my brushes, Butterfly Utopia. To see how to make your brushes check out the tutorial How to make a brush.

This is the color I used for most of the signature. I did use a slightly lighter version of it for the frames. To get this color click inside your foreground color's box. In the Color Picker window enter the settings I put a red border around and click ok.

The rings are two brushes I made. With the elliptical marquee tool make a circle. Hold the shift key while clicking and dragging to make a perfect circle. With black as your foreground color choose Edit>Fill...>Foreground Color. Deselect. Take your elliptical marquee tool again and make another circle inside the black one then click delete. Now make your brush. You don't need to go through the process of making the rings a brush if you feel they aren't something you will use again. Just make a large ring and a small ring like you see above putting each on its own layer. You also would be filling the circle selection with the grey color in reply #1 and not with black.

Fill the layer with black and name it black back. You do that by making black your foreground color and choosing Edit>Fill...>Foreground Color or take your paintbucket tool and click inside your file. Now make two new layers naming one big ring and the other small ring then make your two rings and use the move tool to put them where you want. Set the small ring layer's opacity to 40%, see red outline in the layers palette. Choose your eraser tool and in the options bar set the Mode to Brush. Also change the Opacity to 50% in the options bar, see purple outline. Using this brush take your eraser tool and erase where the red arrows are pointing to make certain sections of the rings darker. To erase I just clicked down one or two times. Since we are using a good size brush when erasing you don't need to click down on the ring itself you could click down a slight distance away. If you feel the 300 brush is erasing too much you can switch to a smaller size brush by reducing its Diameter in the brushes palette or you can reduce the opacity in the options bar to 25%. To make this brush choose a round brush and change the settings to the ones you see below.

Now make your butterflies. I rotated some and changed the opacity for most of them as you'll see in the picture. Use your move tool to place them.

Make a new layer and name it frames. The color of the frames is slightly lighter than the grey we have used so far. Click inside the foreground color's box and in the Color Picker window click and drag the hollow circle up and to the left a little to get a lighter shade. You will see the new color in the top colored box located at the left of OK. Take the rectangular marquee tool and make a square. You can hold the shift key while clicking and dragging to make it in proportion. Choose Edit>Fill...>Foreground Color. Deselect. Make another square selection like you see in the picture and then click delete. Deselect.

Make a copy of the frame layer by clicking and dragging it to the new layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette. Take your move tool and move the copy over. Take your eraser tool and just like you did for the rings except this time using a smaller size brush, erase where the red arrows are pointing. Your settings in the options bar should not have changed for the eraser tool. Now link and merge the two frame layers so you have one layer named frames.

Open your picture file and drag the Background from the layers palette over your siggy file and release. Reduce or enlarge your picture. Use the move tool to put it in the frame on the left. Make sure this picture layer is under your frames layer in the layers palette. Click on the frames layer in the layers palette. Take the magic wand tool and click in the center of the left frame. Now choose Select>Modify>Expand>3. Now click on the picture layer in the layers palette and choose Layer>New>Layer via Copy. Deselect. You can delete the picture layer you just made this copy from. Now repeat these steps for your second picture. I named these layers TEDDY pic and WOODY pic. Now take the rectangular marquee tool and use it to delete the places where your picture is showing through the frame. You do that by making the selection and clicking delete.

Make a new layer and name it colored trail. Take your pencil tool and select the 1 pixel brush from the brushes palette. Make sure the Mode is set to Normal in the options bar for your pencil tool. Create your trail. Since you are using such a tiny brush you might want to take your zoom tool and click in your file one or two times to enlarge your view. To get back to 100% just double click on the zoom tool's button in the toolbox. Notice the placement of this layer in the layers palette.
