In this tutorial I'm going to show you how you can add a video clip to your signatures.

In ImageReady open the video you want to use. Mine was saved as a QuickTime movie file. This is the window you should see. From this window is where you'll take the frames from your video that you want to use in your signature. Below are the settings I used to get my frames. I pushed the play button while holding the shift key until the action sequence in the film that I wanted to use was done and then I stopped it and clicked OK.

In the animation palette you'll see all the frames that make up the video clip. You can push the play button to watch your clip. After watching my movie clip I decided there were some extras frames I didn't want. For my signature I used frames 1-19. To delete frames 20-46 I first clicked on frame 20. Then while holding the shift key I clicked on frame 46. That selected frames 20-46. To delete them I clicked the trash can icon at the bottom of the animation palette.

In the layers palette you'll see all the layers that make up the entire clip. So you will see the layers for any frames you might have just deleted from the animation palette. Since I was only going to use frames 1-19 I only needed to keep layers 1-19. First I applied the lock position lock to Layer 1. Then I linked Layers 2-19 to Layer 1. To delete the remaining layers that I didn't need I clicked on layer 20 and made sure the eye on its layer was showing. Then I linked and merged layers 21-46 to this layer. Once merged into one layer I deleted it.

Because I'm going to be adding some layer effects in Photoshop to this signature it's best to delete every frame in the animation palette except for frame 1. What happens if you don't is the effects' settings can show differently for some of your frames. So click on frame 2, hold the shift key and click on your last frame. Now click the trash can icon. What you should be left with is frame 1 in the animation palette. And in the layers palette, all of the layers that make up the section of the clip you'll be using in your signature. So for me layers 1-19.

Click the button in the toolbox to go into Photoshop. You'll see frame 1. Below is the actual size of my clip. I was happy with this size so I didn't change it. If you need to change the size of yours first click on Layer 1 so it's the active layer. Remove the lock from this layer by clicking on the lock position button at the top of the layers palette. Then reduce/enlarge the layers in your clip. Since all of the layers in your clip are already linked to Layer 1 they will all reduce/enlarge at the same time. Once you have your clip at the size you want click on Layer 1 and reapply the lock position lock to it.

Open the image you want to use for your background and bring it into your file. Name the layer back picture. Make sure its under Layer 1 in the layers palette.

Select the move tool. Click on Layer 1. Remove the lock position lock from this layer. Move your clip where you want in your signature. Reapply the lock position lock to Layer 1 once your clip is in place. Now take the rectangular marquee tool and make a selection around your clip.

Add a new layer and name it frame. Place it below Layer 1. Choose a color and fill the selection. You can use the paint bucket tool to fill it. Deselect.
